Pretty, but plain bedroom

The master bedroom is starting to shape up. The walls are primed and ready for paint. This room is right down the hall from the laundry and the other bathroom. Carpet will be the flooring for this space. The two photos show the view back into the hallway and the view out the windows and deck door. Once the painting is complete, the electrician will be back to finish off the outlets, switches and smoke detectors.

Soon to be laundry room

The rooms are really taking shape. This room will be our new upstairs laundry area. Most of this space was formally a very small bedroom. The first photo shows the pine floor, which is in poor shape. It will be covered with vinyl tile. The window will stay the same, only now it has been insulated. The room is kind of a funky shape, so we will take advantage of that by putting in shelves and rods to store and dry clothes.

This spot will house the washer and dryer. The units will be stacked to save space. The large white plastic pan will be under the units to catch any drips. We won't hook them up until the place is finished. Just too messy still.

I'm back with lots of updates

Sorry about the lack of updates of the project. I had a small camera problem that has been resolved. We have a lot to catch up on...here we go.

About three weeks ago, a giant truck with a crane lifted a huge load of drywall into the house. Long sheets of this chalky stuff, some pieces were 16 feet long, took up space in the framed rooms. The next day a crew of four drywall hangers arrived and got to work. Those guys were fast and good. By the end of the day all the rooms were drywalled and ready for tape and mud. The following days the seams, corners and edges were carefully smoothed and feathered. These two photos show a before and after of the hallway on the second floor. The top picture reveals the master bedroom and door to the upper deck all finished in. The lower photo, from approximately the same spot, shows the original hall/bathroom during demolition in July. The doorway is where the window used to be.

Back to temporary power

Well, the power line conduit is now buried. But we have to wait until the electric company and city come out to inspect the work. The power company will then pull the permanent line through the conduit and the electrician will hook it up. So, until then we still are attached to the temporary lines lying in our backyard. This photo shows the temporary meter attached to a pole in the alley, right next to what used to be our compost pile. That's our contractor, Rod, climbing down off the loader.

How's the house look?

Not a lot of changes on the outside of the project. The last three weeks have been a bit uneventful. The painters arrived yesterday armed with caulking guns and went to work. It took all day and a bunch of tubes of caulk to seal up the house. Next week, the color comes to the house. Stay tuned.
